SoftBums is the husband and wife team of Sarah and Brian Van Bogart. Sarah Van Bogart, founder, co-owner, and designer for SoftBums, has been sewing and designing diapers for over 10 years. She brings her unique experience as a mother of four, La Leche League leader and even training as a midwife to her products. She works hard to provide the best products she possibly can, because she knows how frustrating it is to have a diaper that fits badly, leaks or wears out after just a few months.
SoftBums Echo Shell diapers are the most unique diapers I have ever tried. What makes them so different? Slide2Size. Slide2Size is a genius way to make one diaper fit all, from six pounds to thirty five. How it works is simple, in the front of the diaper are elastics that you pull, when they get pulled it makes you diaper smaller. One complaint that I have heard a few times from other moms is that although the diaper fits the weight, their baby’s legs are either too big or too small for the leg holes and the baby isn’t comfortable or well protected. Slide2Size eliminates that common problem, insuring a perfect fit every time (which also means no leaks) and no red marks – ever.
I really like this diaper, and for more reasons then the Slide2Size. Velcro enclosures make changes easy, but my main concern is with them wearing out. SoftBums Echo Shell‘s closures are industrial strength and SoftBums claim that they won’t wear out. However, I still prefer the snaps. I feel that they are more secure and will make it harder for Carter to take off his diaper when that fun day comes. My husband’s favorite part? The fact that they don’t have to be stuffed. My husband refuses to un stuff the diapers when they need to go in the wet bag, it grosses him right out so I’m happy we have a diaper that he is comfortable working with (no excuse now!). I’m also loving how trim this diaper is (and yet, it still fits my preemie son). One thing I dislike about cloth diapering is how bulking the majority of the diapers are, it gives my son a funny looking bottom, but SoftBums is the trimmest diaper I have and it looks great on him.
The pods (inserts) I received are the new DryTouch Pods and a DryTouch MiniPod. These pods are made of four layers of microfiber and topped with microfleece. They’re simple to use, as there is no folding required, just snap in and it’s staying put. If you place the mini underneath the regular pod you make an even snugger fit for a newborn and have that much more protection. Perfect for overnight.
One of the best things about SoftBums Echo shell is that if you don’t want the DryTouch pod, you have options. SoftBums also offers Super Pods (up to six layers of protection) and Organic Bamboo Pods (all natural and trim). All Pods will fit any waterproof diaper shell, which is great so if you’re washing your Echo or Omni shell you can still have the benefits of the pods (80% less chance of getting a diaper rash compared to disposables).
SoftBums Echo shells come in a variety of fun colors for you to choose from. I chose chocolate because I thought it was neutral enough if we have another baby. However, if I had a girl it would be 100% Bubblegum. How cute are these colors?
