Maybe This Should Have Been My Wordless Wednesday… #notimpressed

I recently bought Walmart patio furniture, and look what happened within the first thirteen days .

Some of you may have already seen this on my Instagram page already. I just bought this patio set 13 days ago, and when I looked out the window this morning, this is what I found. Needless to say, I am not impressed. I spent $300 on this, and yes it was the least expensive patio set there in that size but that is beside the point. I didn’t spend $300 for it to break in less then two weeks.
The moment Walmart opened this morning, I called them and thankfully I am able to bring it back.
I guess you get what you pay for.
I told Walmart I wanted a refund and I was under the impression that is what I was going to get. When I got there they told me I was getting an exchange, when I tried to explain what I was told I was reemed out by the assistant manager. I was not rude at all, and was very calm trying to explain. My husband couldn’t believe the way we were being treated either.
Apparently what happened is my fault, and when I told her the umbrella wasn’t in it and told her that everything else she told me “I did wrong” never happened, she snapped even more. What I wanted to do was lose my cool and tell her where to go and how to get there, but I kept it together (barely) and just accepted the exchange on the table (even though my chairs are rusted).
I am so mad right now, I am firm on never supporting my local Walmart again. Awful customer service (I have had more then one experience). I am disgusted in the way I was treated, it was unfair and uncalled for.

I tweeted & FB’d Walmart and here is the response I received:
So I’m going through the motions. You never know what will happen with the store manager.
Update: I was never reach out to by the store manager.

    I would take the new set to another Walmart and tell them you changed your mind and don’t want it.

    Good thing there is no Wal Mart where I live… it’s funny, I have driven 2 hours to the closest one… forget it… I will no longer visit Wal Mart for anything. I have frequently had problems with them and clearly… that’s a normal thing. I will stay away!

I used to love Walmart and the great deals you could get but their customer service sucks not to mention they accused me of using fake coupons and they are horrid with returns, I try to avoid them best I can which seems to be very EASY nowadays!! My girlfriend was actually almost arrested because they accused her of shoplifting and swore she was the one…after questioning she was at work with no way to get there…needless she say she will never shop there again.

  4. I agree with you it does not matter how much you spend. $300 is $300 in my books and in their books as well! I have found customer service to be lacking lately or is it just me. Although customer service is quite a bit of common sense and I think some people in customer service should not be in that position – because they do not know how to deal with people or just plain lack people skills. On the other hand I think it is the companies responsibility to educate their employees on how to treat them. I am really surprised that Walmart has not offered to their employees this educational tool that would be good for all employees that work there. If they did you would not have been treated the way you were. I don’t think it is so much the employees fault but the employers.

    I’m sorry to hear that! I’ve never had a problem with products from Walmart, but perhaps when you expect low standards, you’re not surprised. I haven’t purchased any big ticket items from them though…

  7. That is why i ONLY buy from bed bath and beyond!!! They will take back anything, anytime with or without a receipt or box for at least store credit AS long as it is an item they still sell…. Knwing that they have patio furniture as well, maybe you should completely return your exchanged table (at another walmart) and shop BBB!!!

    Oh that simply sucks. They should have given you a product refund solely based on the fact that your chairs are already rusted. Ridiculous behaviour. Particularly if they had already agreed to a refund on the phone. I would have been livid.

    For $300, they should have lasted several years but that’s besides the point.

    Considering the fact that you bought them less than two weeks ago, Walmart should have taken them back. Full refund. No questions. No hassles.

    I’ve never had a problem with Walmart because I’ve never given them my business. By choice.

  10. I would be livid. I think customer service rarely exists now. I am shocked and put in a good mood when a cashier just looks up and greets me these days.

    Take it back tell them you contacted head office and the man you spoke to said you can get a full refund. In fact just get hubs to do it, they probably won’t remember him and you have a receipt. I’m so sorry this happened. that’s awful. Our walmart is very good usually.

    I always pay with a credit card and that way, if there’s any grief, I can just ask the credit card company to charge it back to them.

    If you didn’t pay that way, you could still try another store and see if you have better luck.

    Oh dear! That really stinks :( I don’t like hearing bad customer service stories! There are so many of them and there totally shouldn’t be.

    Contact head office if the store gives you grief.

    I have a love hate relationship with Walmart. They advertise that they price match but when I bring in an ad from somewhere else they look at me like I’m crazy. It’s so annoying. I’ve found their groceries aren’t a deal so I started shopping at Sobeys where I get aeroplan points. I’ve never regretted it.

    Good luck with your furniture. I agree, I would return your new set and get your money back. Easiest, less confrontation, and completely within their rules!

    WalMart is the world’s largest importer from China and hire staff at minimum wage, so yes, unfortunately you get what you pay for. That’s not to say that $300 is a small sum…customer service should be good whether you spend $3 or $300! I’m not a supporter of WalMart for all of the reasons above and encourage everyone to do the same as Sarah – stop patronizing them.

    I think WalMart has the worse customer service people and don’t even get me started on the managers. Good thing is they are exchanging it for you. I can’t image the pain-in the butt it was to lug it all back to the store.

    That’s horrible! This is why we never shop at Walmart. I don’t care if they’re 2 cents cheaper on every item because of their $x.97 pricing. Their not worth the time or energy with their crappy customer service. I hope you can get this straightened out.

    Wow, that is a terrible experience!!! I’ve had the same thing happen – something broke that wasn’t my fault and the person (my landlord, actually) kept telling me what I must’ve been doing wrong and I kept telling him that nope, I hadn’t done any of that stuff and he needed to fix it. He finally did (thanks to my husband knowing our rights as tenants) but it was very frustrating to be told that it was my fault. I don’t like big box stores so I hardly shop at Walmart, but this (and several other things recently) make me even less likely to go there. I hope you get your refund and find a better quality patio set somewhere else.
