Family Time: Why You Should Slow Down & Take a Moment
Can you believe it’s fall? What the heck happened to summer? It went by so fast, and I was incredibly busy. Many trips, weddings, and visits with friends and family. I missed out on enjoying the actual season, the sunshine and crucial family time.
Last weekend was the first weekend where we didn’t have any plans. We went to the park, played around a bit but that was it. It was so nice. It was time to slow down and just relax, but I thought of it as time to catch up on housework and the typical little tasks that eat away at me. It wasn’t until that evening I decided to relax a little. Being that it’s fall, and it’s getting darker earlier we were all in our pyjamas at 7 and decided to put on a movie. My husband cooked up some popcorn and the tree of us cuddled on the sofa, snacked and watched a family film.
It opened my eyes.
My son is now 18 months old, and this is the first time the three of us have spent that kind of quality time together. We’re always “together” but doing separate things: blogging, playing, Pinning, etc. I usually don’t have the attention span to sit there and just watch a movie (I’m guilty of being on Pinterest/texting at the same time) but having my son actually cuddle with me while chewing on some popcorn made my heart melt. When it hit me that it was the first time that all three of us had no distractions around, the guilt soon followed.
It’s time to slow down and be in the moment.
My son is too little to do a family game night or that kind of thing but if he likes to sit down and watch a movie once a week with his mom and dad, we’re going to do just that. With no other technology around. No computer, no phone, and no iPad.
Fisher Price’s Thomas and Friends has just come out with a new DVD for my family and I to enjoy. King Of The Railway is an adventure for all ages.
After watching Thomas, why not spark your child’s creativity with the Adventure Castle Play Set and/or the Castle Quest Set.
How does your family spend “Family Time”?
