Starting Solids
Annabel Karmel is an international bestselling author of fifteen books on nutrition and cooking for babies and toddlers (she is also known on the British television), her newest book Starting Solids is a must have for moms everywhere.
Starting Solids has some great tips (and they are so simple to do) for easing solids into your baby’s diet. A step-buy-step guide for introducing your baby to solids in their first year (I have to mention that it’s all rich in nutrients). This phase in your baby’s life is a great way to add variety in their diet, which later prevents fussy eaters (babies tend to be adventurous eaters between the ages of six months to a year).
The book begins with weaning (tips on how, when and why) and then goes to introducing first solids, exploring new tastes and textures and in the end: creating a varied diet.
What I appreciated the most from Starting Solids was the recipes! I would have no idea where to start when it came to making my own food, and this is a great guide. Annabel helps you find the right consistency, so there is no guessing. Some of the recipes are Sweet Potato with Broccoli and Peas, Cheesy Leek Sweet Potato and Cauliflower. Once your baby gets past the beginning stages, you can add more of a varied diet an those recipes include: Cheesy Rice Balls, Annabel’s Chicken Burgers, and Cheese and Apple Quesadilla’s. I love the varied diet stage because they are meals your whole family can enjoy.
Although I appreciate the recipes, my favorite feature was the menu planning! I am a huge fan of menu planning for Eric and myself, so why not for a baby as well? In Starting Solids there is a menu plan for each stage for Breakfast, Lunch, Mid Afternoon, Dinner and Bedtime.
I would recommend Starting Solids to every mom out there. This would make a great baby shower gift.
